reminiscing

September 26th, 2017

I did that familiar thing—burrow my feet into the dewy grass, which made me flush with thoughts—of the times we braced the thunder and freezing rain, counted the sparkling stars, strolled through intoxicating vineyards, drove for miles in silence, watched the leaves dance and drift…

Had I not peeked behind the blooms, chances are I wouldn’t have stumbled upon the bench; it sits tucked in tranquility, intact with its regal ordinariness.

As I sat in in the serene abundant setting, amidst gentle fragrances, punctuated by riotous birds and darling four legged creatures, I soaked in life’s expansiveness, observing the natural process of life—fresh life and withering death—through an array of flowers.

And then as though on cue, the leaf that had floated onto my lap, departed just as gently, toward the flagstone path. Was that you?
